The outdoor door station is the intercom. Camera, speaker, button, and a lock relay in one box. That is the unit you buy first. Indoor screens are optional. Access readers are optional. They all plug into the same Akuvox system.
Someone hits the button. Live video. Two-way talk. You unlock if you want.
- Cloud (SmartPlus subscription). Answer on a phone or tablet from anywhere you have data. Unlock, guest QR, virtual keys, and a photo log of who used the door. Share the app with family or staff.
- Local only. No cloud. Stations talk on your network. Answer on an indoor wall screen or a desk IP phone. Works if the internet is down. No monthly fee.
Most stations take PoE. One Cat 6 from a PoE switch. Night view at the door. Wide view of the entry. Rain cover and the matching back box keep water off the wiring.
Unlock options on many stations (the listing says which): face, card or fob, PIN, Bluetooth or NFC from a phone, QR, and the app. A regular phone call can still talk to the door on a lot of installs. SIP, so it can sit next to a real phone system if you have one.
One door at a house or shop uses a single-unit station. Apartments, offices, and multi-tenant buildings use a multi-unit station so each suite has its own button. Older buildings can use 2-wire stations on existing doorbell wire instead of pulling new Cat 6.
Akuvox models are interchangeable. Start with a small station. Add indoor screens, a second door, or a card reader later without throwing the first one away.
